Victim says man stole her gun while fleeing from law enforcement

The victim of a theft incident that occurred on Lawrenceburg’s First Street on New Year’s Eve reported to officials that the man who stole her gun had been fleeing from police officers.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers responded to the home at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The victim reported that a man who had been staying with she and her daughter had come to the residence earlier that evening after fleeing from law enforcement officers. She said that he went into her bedroom and got her unloaded Smith and Wesson .38 Special, then took it with him when he left.

At that point the suspect, identified as twenty-six year old Cody Michael Blasingame, had already been located by Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies and arrested on a public intoxication charge. They said that at the time of his arrest he had not been in possession of the pistol.

According to reports, officers returned to the location where Blasingame was apprehended and conducted a thorough sweep of the area, however they were unsuccessful in locating the weapon.
